Description

The Leh to Manali Traverse opens with a spectacular flight over the Himalaya from Delhi to Leh in Ladakh. This high and arid region has captured the imagination of adventure travellers. One of the highest roads in the world runs between the town of Leh across the Greater Himalaya to Manali in Himachal Pradesh. In order to acclimatise for the magnificent mountain bike ride, the bikers will try out a 30 kilometre descent from the village of Chilling along a jeep road running beside the raging Zanskar river as well as a cycle ride up to the highest motorable pass in the world, the Kardung La. After this the group is ready for some fantastic scenery and a hair-raising ride over four high passes to Manali.

If you are contemplating travelling to Ladakh in India, then this travelogue offers you a unique opportunity of previewing some of the many wonderful aspects of this country. It will also act as a colourful reminder of a past visit. The programme can be enjoyed equally by the armchair traveller.

JOHN MYERS has travelled to many exotic lands and visited many numerous remote locations. Each volume portrays images of faraway distant lands, encapsulating the enticing atmosphere of the district, and the customs, culture and colour of the local people and their environment.
